Quarantine
is a strict isolation imposed to prevent the spread of disease. Quarantine has
been used for centuries. It is an ancient tool used to prevent the spread of
disease. The outbreak of Covid-19 has made us familiar with this term. There
are two types of quarantine - home quarantine and Institutional quarantine. In
home quarantine, people are locked down within their houses, and community is
engaged to watch over them. It is done when a person willingly separates
himself and his family members from the community. In institutional quarantine,
people are kept in a place arranged by the government. This is usually done for
a large number of people returning from foreign countries severely affected by
Covid-19. The main problem with quarantine is that persons under quarantine are
often detained without regard to their essential needs. Quarantine can be a
highly effective tool in preventing the spread of contagious disease like
Covid-19 if properly applied and practiced according to modern public health
principles.
